The B.S. in Surgical First Assistant is a unique collaboration between the College of Medicine and the College of Nursing. Graduates qualify as Surgical First Assistants, ready for a national certification exam and licensure by the Medical Board. The degree is awarded by the College of Nursing and supported by both faculty in the College of Nursing and the College of Medicine.
The program offers students a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to prepare them to practice. Graduates will enter the workforce at a very competitive rate of pay, and they will be well positioned for graduate study, helping to provide a foundation for future educators in this field.
The BSSFA program is rigorous, grounded in basic science, and adds course work in health care ethics, advanced anatomical study, and the option for electives in leadership, medical terminology, and sociological perspectives to healthcare.
