Horticultural Science Minor

The Horticultural Science minor provides students with a strong foundation in plant biology and the growth and management of horticultural plants. Students can pursue a horticultural specialization such as greenhouse production, landscape ornamentals, fruit and vegetation production, or floral design. This minor is an excellent complement to majors in agriculture, biology, landscape architecture, or related fields, offering practical skills applicable to careers in horticulture, greenhouse management, landscape design, urban agriculture, and sustainable food systems. By integrating scientific principles with hands-on learning, the minor prepares students for opportunities in plant production, agricultural technology, and research industries.

Required hours: 9

Elective Courses

Students take an additional 9 credit hours from Horticulture (HRT) or may substitute other plant-related courses with permission of the minor director. This allows interested students to pursue a specialization in a horticultural area of study such as fruit and vegetable production, greenhouse production, landscape ornamentals, or floral design.
