Distillation, Wine and Brewing Studies Certificate

The Undergraduate Certificate in Distillation, Wine and Brewing Studies (DWBS) offers an opportunity to explore the science and craft behind Kentucky’s iconic alcohol industries.  Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students gain foundational knowledge in distillation, winemaking, and brewing – building essential skills for careers in one of the Commonwealth’s most dynamic sectors. Students will explore topics including raw materials, fermentation, product design, distribution, regulatory considerations, sensory evaluation, and industry history. The program emphasizes both practical training and scientific principles, providing students with a strong foundation to enter the global alcohol beverage industry or enhance their expertise in related fields such as agriculture, food science, hospitality, or engineering.

This certificate is ideal for students interested in the full value chain of alcoholic beverage production – from field to fermentation to final product – and who are ready to engage with a complex, evolving industry.
