SFA 301 - Operating Room Management


[5 Credit Hours]

Building on anatomical knowledge, this course will introduce to the learner to concepts in pathophysiology, diagnostic assessments and interventions, specific surgical interventions, anesthesia and special patient considerations seen in the operative patient. Positioning, draping, types of sutures, medications used perioperatively, and how to maintain and manage an operative case including things like needle and sponge counts. Wound management will be introduced. These specialties will be covered: General, GYN, GU, Plastics and Orthopedics.

Prereq: SFA 201 Introduction to Perioperative Principles, SFA 205 Fundamentals of Surgical Technique I. Coreq: SFA 305 Fundamentals of Surgical Technique II, SFA 307 Introduction to Operative Skills.
