In keeping with the standards of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the undergraduate program in communication sciences and disorders is considered to be a preprofessional degree program. In order to meet Kentucky licensure and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certification requirements, it is necessary to complete the master’s degree. Students pursuing this program should plan on six years to complete both the Bachelor of Health Science and Master of Science programs.

The Communication Sciences and Disorders undergraduate program admits students to the major on a selective and competitive basis. Students are required to have completed a minimum of 42 college credit hours prior to application to the major. Applicants also need a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 21 ACT score (or equivalent SAT score) to be considered for admission. Completion of CSD 277  and PSY 100  (or equivalent) is also required prior to application to the major. Admissions are conducted using a holistic evaluation approach using (1) the applicant’s cumulative GPA from all higher education institutions attended, (2) ACT or SAT scores, (3) three letters of recommendation, (4) professionally-related experiences (including observations and professional interest activities), (5) community service/leadership activities, and (6) an essay authored by the student based on a question prompt. New students are admitted only for the fall semester. The application deadline is February 1.
