The Graduate Certificate in Teaching Nursing is fully online and is designed for nurses who are seeking to enhance their teaching/pedagogical skills, including those who are interested in an academic career in nursing education or a clinical educator in a hospital/healthcare setting. Students will learn how to design courses to meet specific learning outcomes and create assignments that are effective methods for course evaluation and assessment of student competencies.
All course work is 100 percent online. Students are required to complete 180 hours of clinical course work (NUR 641 ) at an approved site location (often this is the student’s employer). The College of Nursing will work with students to confirm if their clinical site is approved for clinical hours.
Applicants are required to hold a graduate nursing degree (MSN, PhD or DNP) or be currently enrolled in a graduate nursing degree program (MSN, PhD or DNP) and meet Graduate School admission requirements.
The Graduate Certificate in Teaching Nursing requires 9 credit hours. The teaching certificate will be open to all graduate students currently enrolled in the College of Nursing, as well as interested applicants who hold an MSN, DNP or PhD degree.
