The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sport Leadership affords learners with the opportunity to engage in face-to-face and online course work that will focus on leadership across sport and fitness industries. Graduates will have established a foundation of knowledge blended across disciplines in sport psychology and sport management/leadership to give a range of freedom in career selection.
The practical experiences gained from this emphasis will serve students well in an ever-changing sport and fitness industry. The degree emphasis will give learners utility across content areas to increase opportunities post-graduation. Additionally, learners can select from minors or certificates that would also give them specialized course work for increased marketability. This emphasis would be attractive to students that are not necessarily interested teacher education, health promotion, or exercise science in Kinesiology & Health Promotion. Additionally, needs in diversity, equity, and inclusiveness would be addressed in areas of culture and leadership.
Requirements for Program
The B.A. in Sport Leadership through the Department of Kinesiology & Health Promotion requires completion of: (1) the UK Core requirements; (2) specified course work in program related studies, professional requirements, education course requirements; (3) practicum internship hours; and (4) specified course work in sport content.

Free Electives
This degree includes 17 free elective hours. Students can consider adding a minor or certificate to specialize in areas of sport. Sport Leadership Careers
The Sport Leadership Careers track will provide students with a foundations in areas of sport administration, sport psychology, and fitness. Students in this track will complete 98 required hours, 5 guided elective hours, and 17 open elective hours related to sport, culture, and/or fitness. The distribution of free elective hours will be as follows: a) 2 hours at 100 or 200-level; b) 3 hours at 300-level; c) 6 hours at 400-level; and d) 6 hours at 500-level. Sport Leadership Entrepreneurs
The Sport Leadership Entrepreneurs track will provide students with a foundation in innovation and entrepreneurial thinking toward becoming a business owner in the sporting arena. Students will take the Sport Leadership degree and add an Undergraduate Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurial Thinking. Students must successfully meet all of the criteria for the certificate to complete this track. Certificate Required courses (6 hours). Choose 2 Certificate Electives (6 hours). Sport Leadership Gaming
The Sport Leadership Gaming track will provide students with an introduction to Esports and gaming industries. This emerging field will be of interest to students that are preparing for new and inclusive sporting opportunities. Students will take the Sport Leadership curriculum and add a Minor in Video Game Design and Development. All criteria for the minor must be completed to complete this track. Minor Prerequisites (6 hours), Minor Requirements (12 hours). Students should be aware this track is 121 credits. |
