College of Social Work

Credit(s): 3

Experiences in criminal justice are often impacted by differing aspects of identity. CJ 316 examines how race/ethnicity, gender, social class, and other aspects of identity affect the experiences of those engaged in the criminal justice system. Culturally relevant practice requires an understanding of disparities and barriers experienced by those in the criminal justice system, and ways of mitigating or addressing those disparities and barriers. This course examines aspects of identity and social constructs that influence one’s likelihood to engage in the criminal justice system.
