Health Administration, MHA

The Master of Health Administration (MHA) program is offered in the College of Public Health. Its mission is to provide students with critical competencies that support their advancement to leadership positions in health systems, hospitals, and other complex health-related organizations, and to build a solid foundation for their future career development. The MHA program focuses on preparing early careerists through a compentency-based, experiential learning framework for positions that require leadership, management, and strategic abilities. Students are positioned to secure healthcare leadership positions within Kentucky and across the United States. The MHA curriculum draw on the expertise of faculty and practitioner leaders to ensure students gain relevant, essential skills.

 

Admission Requirements

  • A 3.0 or higher undergraduate grade point average is recommended.
  • Three letters of recommendation: one from a faculty member who has taught the applicant, one from a supervisor, the third from a professional, non-family member (who could be a faculty member or supervisor).
  • Personal statement
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions
  • Resume/CV

  • GRE, GMAT, or MCAT scores are not required.
  • Applicants must also submit a supplemental application to the University of Kentucky’s Graduate School; http://gradschool.uky.edu/welcome-university-kentucky
  • Application deadline for international students is April 1st.
  • Application deadline for all other applicants is April 1st. Early admission decisions are made by December 1. Rolling admissions decisions are made after the initial December 1 announcements.
  • Applicants are encouraged to apply early for all scholarship/financial aid consideration.
  • Students are admitted only in the fall semester.

 

Degree Requirements

The total program consists of 50 semester hours at the graduate level. Program completion normally requires two years for a full-time student and four years for part-time students. Students are also required to complete a final integrative master’s examination. To be eligible to sit for the final examination, students must have completed or be enrolled in their last semester of coursework and have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. Students with “I” or “S” grades in credit-bearing classes are not eligible for the final examination.
