CSD 746 - MOTOR SPEECH DISORDERS

This 2 credit graduate course focuses on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of motor speech disorders (MSDs) in individuals from birth through adulthood. The course will address oral sensory disorders, developmental delays, and MSDs secondary to neurological damage and disease with particular emphasis on dysarthria and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAD). The course will also address the dysarthrias resulting from acquired brain injury (e.g. stroke and trauma) in adulthood and progressive and non-progressive diseases of the nervous system. Clinical management of MSDs in both children and adults will be addressed as well as cultural differences and diversity issues as they affect development, care-giving, treatment and access to services.

Prereq: CSD 571 or permission of the instructor.
