Return to: College of Engineering
The proposed Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Lean Systems Engineering Technology (LST) degree offers curriculum designed to provide in-depth knowledge of lean operations along with the skills needed to improve quality output, streamline operations, and reduce waste. The proposed four year B.S. in LST is designed as a feeder-completer program in which students earn an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Integrated Engineering Technology (IET) from the Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC), and then a B.S. in LST from UK.
UK offers only junior and senior level course work. A total of 127 credit hours are required with 71 credit hours taken at BCTC and 56 at UK. Of the courses taken at UK, 53 credit hours consist of major requirements and the remaining 3 credit hours are guided electives.
In addition to the collaboration with BCTC, the proposed program will incorporate industry partnerships to provide students with the needed industrial experiences and applications so they are career ready. This degree program is for students seeking distinctive career paths and opportunities in creative industrial design, production, and service. Graduates of the program are prepared for jobs with titles such as Lean Continuous Improvement Engineer, Lean Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Lean Process Improvement Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer, Lean Manufacturing Specialist, and Quality Engineer.

Degree Requirements
Students complete the first two years at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) and earn an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Integrated Engineering Technology. They will then transfer to the University of Kentucky for their junior and senior years to earn Bachelor of Science in Lean Systems Engineering Technology.
In addition to the University graduation requirements listed in the Graduation Requirements section of College of Engineering Bulletin, to be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in any field of engineering or Computer Science, a student must:
- complete the University and College requirements relating to writing and the UK Core.
- complete the required number of hours, exclusive of those earned in freshman college algebra and freshman college trigonometry, with a cumulative standing of not less than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- complete a minimum of 24 credit hours of departmental courses at or above the 300 level.
- complete all departmental courses and technical electives with a cumulative standing of 2.0 or higher.
- complete any additional departmental graduation requirements.
Each student must complete the following:
UK Core Requirements
See the UK Core section of this Bulletin for the Complete UK Core requirements. Students will complete BCTC’s general education requirements which will fulfill UK’s Core requirements via the GETA transfer agreement, except for Arts & Creativity.
