The Graduate Certificate in Play Therapy provides students in the mental health professions foundational knowledge on the role of play as a therapeutic technique within a human development and family framework. Play therapy has a long tradition as a key therapeutic technique, especially with children. The certificate has been structured such that those in mental health fields can gain specialized training in play therapy along with critical course work to support that training. Students may be able to use part of the required course work in this certificate as part of the process to become a certified play therapist. Completion of this certificate can be achieved 100 percent online, hybrid, or in-person which will increase the number of therapists that can start to offer this essential service to their clients.
All graduate students seeking a Play Therapy Certificate must be currently enrolled in-or have a degree/licensure-in a mental health profession such as clinical psychology, counseling psychology, professional counseling, clinical social work, psychiatry, couple and family therapy, or related field.
