College Teaching and Learning Certificate


The Graduate Certificate in College Teaching and Learning provides a coherent, integrated approach to helping graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, current faculty, and others develop and document the skills needed as part of conscientious preparation for the full range of faculty responsibilities at a range of institutions of higher education.

Admission Requirements

  • Satisfy requirements of the Graduate School for admission to certificates.
  • Submit a letter of support from the graduate advisor (for current graduate students), DGS (for new graduate students, or research supervisor (for postdoctoral students).

Applicants must submit an application to the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching and Learning before completing their second certificate course.

Required Courses


Elective Courses


Remaining credit hours should be selected from the following list of elective courses, or additional department-based teaching, professional development, or faculty-preparation courses. Students wishing to apply courses not listed below must get approval from Faculty and Administrative Directors. Up to three hours of approved graduate credits from other accredited universities may be transferred and applied toward elective credits with approval of the Faculty and Administrative Directors. Credits eligible for transfer must have been completed after admission to the certificate curriculum.
