The Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders is designed for students seeking entry-level professional preparation in speech-language pathology. The curriculum incorporates six semesters of coursework and intensive clinical practicum experiences designed to prepare students to meet state licensure and national certification requirements.

The Master of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology at the University of Kentucky is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2017 or 301-296-5700.

The admissions cycle to the M.S.C.S.D. program is a competitive application process occurring annually (September - January). Applicants choose one of two pathways. The two-year (or traditional) program is for students who have an undergraduate major or equivalent in communication sciences and disorders. The two-year program cohort matriculates in June.

Applicants without an undergraduate major or equivalent in communication sciences and disorders should choose the three-year program to complete the prerequisite foundation course work in their first year. Students in the 3-year pathway matriculate in August.

Admissions decisions are based on a composite of information about the applicant, not merely one factor. The composite includes but is not limited to: grades, personal achievements/involvement during school or since graduation, service activities, potential to contribute to the diversity of the program, leadership, motivation, time mangement skills, and letters of recommendation.

Admission Requirements

All applicants must meet the minimum academic standards for the Graduate School. Completion of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 from a regionally accredited college or university is required prior to entry into the program.
