Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming every walk of life and has impacted every discipline, science, engineering, medicine, business, humanities, arts, education, etc. According to Pew Research Center’s July 2023 report, “In 2022, 19 percent of American workers were in jobs that are the most exposed to AI, in which the most important activities may be either replaced or assisted by AI.” The importance of AI is broadly recognized and AI literacy for every major is gaining traction.

The purpose of the Artificial Intelligence certificate is to offer UK undergraduate students an increasingly important curriculum preparing them to understand the basic concepts, principles and techniques of AI, comprehend the social, legal and ethical issues involved in using AI, and apply AI techniques to solve problems in application domains.

The certificate is available to all UK undergraduate students, non-degree students, and post-baccalaureate students. There are several pathways to obtain the certificate, depending on how extensively students want to get involved with programming.

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above to be admitted. For non-degree students and post-baccalaureate students, a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above of college courses is required.

The Undergraduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence requires 12 hours. A student must earn a C or better in each required certificate course to receive the certificate.
