Soil forming factors and their interrelationships as related to development and distribution of soils. Processes of rock and mineral weathering with associated soil formation. Genesis and stability of soil clay minerals. Common methods used for pedological investigations. Basic principles and concepts of the present soil classification system and relationships between pedogenic processes and class criteria employed by soil taxonomy. Lecture, three hours; laboratory, two hours per week.
