NUR955 - PEDIATRIC DEVELOPMENT AND WELLNESS: ADVANCED ROLE CONCEPTS

This course provides the foundation for the practice-doctorate, pediatric nusing students to integrate the role of the pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP), utilizing relevant concepts and theories, with aspects of pediatric client (well-child) assessment and management. Family and child development theories will be incorporated to maximize the health and wellness of the pediatric client from birth through adolescence (birth to 21 years of age). The student will explore the relevance of pathophysiologic, cognitive, behavioral, psychosocial concepts and community needs for the purpose of health promotion, health protections, and disease prevention in this vulnerable population. Discussion of classic and current resarch evidence as it relates to human development and the primary care of well children (e.g. anticipator guidance, immunizations, and recommended health screening practices) will be integrated throughout the course. Economic, ethical, spiritual, cultural, legal, political, and geographic factors that impact wellness and helath promotion will also be appraised.

Prereq: Admission to DNP or post graduate certificate program; NUR 924 and NUR 925 or awarded MSN. Pre/co-req: NUR 921, 922 and 923.
