Creative social entrepreneurship (CSE) is the skills-based practice of establishing new ventures that combine creative methods with commercial strategies to improve the economic, environmental, political, and social well-being of society. Creative social entrepreneurship transcends the arts and culture, entrepreneurship, and leadership practices through the synthesis of these skill sets (communication, resourcefulness, risk-taking, value creation, etc.) to bring new and innovative products and services to market - all with the goal of meeting community-based societal goals.
Entrepreneurship across industries is on the rise. Furthermore, more businesses and entrepreneurs are focused on connecting their passions with social purpose through the development of new ventures. The certificate in creative social entrepreneurship offers a transdisciplinary entrepreneurship education to those seeking to build new creative social enterprises and those looking to pivot their current organizations towards self-sufficiency and creative social innovation.
The program is designed to provide students with a specialization in creative social entrepreneurship through the department of arts administration’s innovative online program structure, which affords current students at UK, students at HBCU partner schools, and working creative professionals the opportunities for time and location flexibility, course and program affordability, and quality instruction from established and practicing creative social entrepreneurs.
Upon completing the certificate program, students will be able to: apply strategic, creative, and persuasive communication skills across a range of dynamic audience, consumer, and stakeholder contexts; connect critical thinking and resourcefulness by analyzing situations and constructing applicable solutions to address economic, environmental, political, and/or social problems in and around the creative and cultural sector; interpret strengths, challenges, and risks within the ideation process, by utilizing a range of creative methods to strategize and implement feasible ideas in new, emerging, or existing creative and cultural markets; design a strategic process that communicates their market, leadership, consumer, operational, financial, and innovation knowledge towards the value creation of their creative social enterprise.
As a skills-based practice, the certificate in creative social entrepreneurship offers UK students the opportunity to combine creative methods with commercial strategies to improve the economic, environmental, political, and social well-being of society. They will establish new creative social enterprises and gain entrepreneurial skills uniquely necessary to the growth of creative and cultural industries.
