Prerequisite

Prerequisites for admission to the Undergraduate Certificate in Child Life include (9 credit hours):

• FAM 252 - INTRODUCTION TO RELATIONSHIPS, MARRIAGES, AND FAMILIES Credit(s): 3
• FAM 357 - ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT Credit(s): 3
• FAM 390 - INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH METHODS Credit(s): 3

Required Courses

Note: Each prerequisite must be completed with a B grade or better.

Due to the limited number of students admitted to the child life certificate program each year, applications for admission into the certificate program (which can be found on the Department of Family Sciences website) are reviewed once per year following the annual May 10 application due date.

All certificate courses must be completed with a B grade or better (because this is required by the Association of Child Life Professionals to qualify for certification).

The Undergraduate Certificate in Child Life requires a total of 22 credits, as follows:

• IEC 255 - CHILD DEVELOPMENT Credit(s): 3
• FAM 301 - SUPPORTING HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN Credit(s): 3
• FAM 302 - LEARNING AND HEALING THROUGH PLAY Credit(s): 3
• FAM 500 - CHILD LIFE PRACTICUM Credit(s): 4
• PHI 380 - DEATH, DYING AND THE QUALITY OF LIFE Credit(s): 3

Guided Electives

Complete at least two (6 credit hours) of the following courses with a B or better:
