The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Engineering Technology (CPT) degree offers curriculum designed to provide in-depth knowledge of hardware and software design, development, applications, and maintenance with a mix of both classroom and laboratory experiences that is in demand by industry.
Students will complete the first two years at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) or West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) and earn an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Engineering Technology. They will then transfer to the University of Kentucky (UK) for their junior and senior years (years 3 and 4 of the curriculum) to earn the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Technology. Students participating in the Computer Engineering Technology program at the West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) will have the option to pursue their junior and senior years (years 3 and 4 of the curriculum) at the UK-Paducah campus or UK’s home campus in Lexington, KY upon completion of the AAS in Computer Engineering Technology.
In addition to the collaboration with BCTC and WKCTC, the proposed program will incorporate industry partnerships to provide students with the needed industrial experiences and applications to be career ready. The program is designed for students seeking distinctive career paths and opportunities in creative industrial design, production, and service. Graduates will be prepared for jobs with titles such as embedded software technologist, computer support specialist, networking support specialist, automation engineer, applications engineer, telecommunications engineer, network support technical engineer, and network administrator.
