Admission Requirements  

Admission into the MPH program is competitive, and consideration is given to academic background, a history of service, interest in the field, a personal statement, career plans, and letters of recommendation. The MPH program is now test-optimal. You may submit official GRE, GMAT, or MCAT scores if you choose. Applicants must complete a UK Graduate School Application and make a separate application through the Schools of Public Health Application Service (SOPHAS.org), the centralized application process for accredited schools/colleges of public health. Applications will not be reviewed until the SOPHAS application is completed. Degree Requirements  

The MPH Degree is designed to meet the need of recent baccalaureate graduates planning careers in public health and related professions as well as current public health and clinical practitioners wanting to increase knowledge of population based issues. Because of the breadth of the public health profession, an applicant with a bachelor’s degree in any major field will be considered for admission to the program. 

Each student is required to pursue at least one concentration area from the following: Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Behavior, Health Management & Policy (Online or hybrid) or Health Systems and Policy Analytics (Online). 

The MPH Program is a minimum of 42 credit hours:

  • 24 MPH Credit Hours (Required)
  • 18-21 Concentration Credit Hours (Required)

 

MPH Core Courses (required credit hours) - 24 to 25 Total Required Credit Hours 

*CPH 663 is NOT required for students who have a Bachelor of Public Health degree from a CEPH accredited program. 

Concentration Requirements (required credit hours) - 18 to 19 Total Required Credit Hours 

Each student is required to pursue at least one concentration area.  Requirements are listed for each concentration below: 

Environmental Health Concentration - 18 Required Credit Hours

Epidemiology Concentration - 18 Required Credit Hours 

Health Behavior Concentration - 19 Required Credit Hours 

  • Electives (9 credit hours) - See your advisor for a complete list of electives.   

Health Management and Policy (Online or hybrid) - 18 Required Credit Hours

Health Systems and Policy Analytics - 18 Required Credit Hours

Admission to the MPH Health Systems and Policy Analytics (HSPA) concentration has been paused for Fall 2023
