A minor in History provides training in critical thinking and expression and a valuable perspective on the varieties of civilizations and modes of human behavior, complementing coursework in numerous other disciplines, including the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural and applied sciences.
Students must complete a total of 18 credit hours in HIS prefix course work for the minor in history. Of those 18 credit hours 6 credit hours must be at the 100-level or above, 3 credit hours must be at the 200-level or above, and 9 credit hours must be at the 300-level or above.
Course work used to satisfy the region requirement may also be used to satisfy the historical era requirement.

Students must take one course from each region listed below.
- United States history
- European history
- Asian or African or Middle Eastern or Latin American history
Historical Eras
Students must take one course from one of the historical eras listed below.
- The period before 1789
- The period after 1789
Students must choose additional HIS prefix course work to lead to the minimum of 18 credit hours required for the minor in History.
