CSD621 - AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION

This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for individuals with significant disabilities of speaking and writing. The course will illustrate the role that AAC systems have to play in overcoming barriers to successful communication, education, and participation across the lifespan. Students will acquire skills in evaluation, intervention, and prescriptions of AAC for diverse populations across the life span. Trends, issues, and challenges related to AAC in various settings will be emphasized. Readings, activities, and examinations will be used to establish a strong foundation for clinical practice in AAC.

Prerequisite(s):
Prereq: Graduate status in CSD or RHB or consent of the instructor.
